"Rosario" is 2010 MMFF 2nd Best Picture; Jennylyn Mercado and Albert Martinez Failed To Get The Best Actress and Best Director Nominations

"Rosario", a Cinemabuhay and Studio 5 entry to the 2010 MMFF, and the critics choice to sweep this years MMFF awards, lost the Best Picture trophy to Star Cinema comedy entry "Ang Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na To!" getting only the 2nd Best Picture award.

Unlike in the past year's staging of MMFF where box office performance of the movie was the main criterion for identifying the Best Picture award, the 36th MMFF based its judging on the movie's artistry, creativity and technical excellence, innovativeness, thematic value and global appeal, which comprise 70 percent, and Filipino cultural and/or historical value, 30 percent.

This year, the MMFF Committee also decided to mention only the top three nominees for each category.

Aside from the Second Best Picture award, "Rosario", also won 5 awards: Gatpuno Villagas Cultural Award, Best Supporting Actor for Dolphy, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography and Best Editing.

Interestingly, the film's lead star Jennylyn Mercado was not even nominated for Best Actress category and its director, Albert Martinez failed to get the Best Director nomination. Why oh why!?!

"Rosario" who takes on the true life story of Rosario Pereira, the grandmother of PLDT Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan, written and financed by MVP himself and directed by Albert Martinez. is graded A for excellence by the Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB).
