Easter is at the Queen

76 degrees in Atlanta and it is marvelous to be outdoors.  Clear blue skies, warm sunshine and setting up my booths for Easter made for a lovely Saturday.

How sweet are these vintage cabbage salt and pepper shakers and perfect for an Easter table with the bunny candy dish.

I brought in eight, vintage spring hats and they are throughout my main booth.  This marvelous blue and white straw number looks well next to the vintage rabbit toy.

I filled the huge crystal vase with faux sparrow eggs.  A little girl watching me set up insisted that I add the pretty glittered egg garland.  Not the minimalist look that I like, but it put a smile on her face when I took her advice so I left it.  Who knows, perhaps she will become an antiques dealer when she grows up.

Frames must be in my "moon" because I have found them like mad these past few weeks.  Came across these lovely wooden oval frames that was deadstock from an art store that closed in the 1960s.

This delightful pair of oil cloth rabbit dolls are handmade and embellished with vintage fabrics and lace. 

I purchased a slew of stone and bone frames from Hobby Lobby last spring.  They were all on clearance and I paid about 99 cents for each.  I love putting vintage photos in neat looking frames.  Not only do you wind up with instant relatives, but they have a whimsical appeal to them.

This vintage photo of a cat sitting in a bird birth made me laugh out loud. Cats are so funny.

Late Edwardian day dress with pretty pleated panels and net lace.

I filled all of the antique candlesticks with pretty Easter eggs. Following my booths redo, I took a walk to see what other dealers had brought in and as usual, I found a marvelous little transfer ware chocolate cup and saucer and spare cup in SassyTrash's booth.  Pretty little things with brown transfer ware designs. Almost can't wait for the cold weather again to make some Mexican chocolate laced with cinnamon.  Sigh, Miss Sassy, I could live in your booth with all of the pretty things you have to offer.

I was also in Hobby Lobby picking up net fabric when I walked down this aisle to look at the beads and saw that some "joker" had rearranged these initials you could purchase.  Couldn't resist snapping a pic from my iphone.  Ya have to find your giggles where you can.

My honey and I had dinner with my sister and her friend at a great little "grouper place" in Lawrenceville.  The Oyster Bay Seafood Cafe feels like you have walked into any fish house somewhere in Florida.  Great food at even better prices, icy cold dark beer and excellent wait staff make this a wonderful place to go with friends and family.  Following good conversation and lots of laughter, we walked out of the rear entrance when I spy a beautiful gold leaf frame in the trash can of a shop next store.  Without missing a beat, I walked down the steps, picked up the frame from the trash and kept walking to my sisters car.  With everyone laughing at my subtle found object, we continued to the car and I put it in the trunk.  

Here is that beautiful picture frame.  A nice size for a mirror, a painting, or use as an element on your wall.  Hey, don't tell me you wouldn't have done the same thing. This will be in my main booth next weekend.  Blessings to you and those you love. Sea Witch

Finding Treasure

It was a nice weekend with junkin, finding treasure and getting it in my booths.  Funny how certain items just find you and vintage and antique transferware has seemed to pop up everywhere for me this weekend.

Found lots of great red ware from the Victorian era through the 1950s.  A wonderful find of seven dinner plates of the popular Homer Laughlin Historic Americana Currier and Ives series, paid $7.00 for the seven plates and each book at $29.95.  Sometimes a trip to Goodwill pays off big.

A few flow blue pieces and lovely handpainted items, all from England and one of them was an early Wedgwood soft paste luncheon plate.  Got them cheap so I priced them way below book value.  Half the fun of antiquing is the hunt and the great price.  I love to pass on to my customers a great price when I can.

I always think of Ethel Merman and the line from her song from Annie Get Your Gun, "Don't leave your panties in the hall, you're the hostess, with the mostest of them all."  Two pairs of deadstock panties with original labels and hangtags inside. Love the tap panties.

Religious items always move well and I'm still crazy about this print from a small convent.

Great pair of vintage cafe curtains are perfect for a vintage kitchen.

Found four large gilt frames, two were Victorian.  I love frames, they are great to use just as they are on a wall display.  Put mirrors in them, photos or just "frame" pretty plates, vintage mesh purses or whatever you love.

How cute are these hens sitting in nests of vintage dress patterns?  This is part of the delightful display at the entrance to Queen of Hearts,  Buford.  So many talented designers are found here and these entrance displays are always a joy to see.

More of the front entrance display. Great old bed, french burlap fabric, soft, vintage pillows and tin ceiling tiles.  Large flowers constructed from fabric patterns hang from the ceiling and placed in vases.

Here is decorating at its best.  Gerber daisies in a vintage gas pump. Don't you just love it?

I'mmmmm baaacckkkkkkk!

Greetings from the Sea Witch.  So glad to be back blogging and reading all of our posts.  I have missed you all and thank you for all of your prayers and support while we dealt with my granddaughter's brain surgery and her recovery.  As I mentioned in the December 7th post, she has been cured and is at a near total recovery.  Some medication side effects are her only issue right now and those should diminish in about 30 days when she is completely off the anti-seizure meds.   Her hand is getting better every day and she will  be back to her rambuncious self by the summer.

Hope everyone had a wonderful and safe New Year and without sounding like a Miss America contestant...I truly do wish for "world peace."  Our mother earth is dealing with a lot  of anger around her and we, her children, are suffering.  Acts of kindness have an amazing ripple effect around us, so pass them on to someone each and every day.  Tell a stranger they have beautiful eyes or a welcoming smile; if someone wants your parking space, let them have it; buy the lunch for the car behind you at your next drive through stop; hug your children, kiss your companion and tell those you love that you love them.  We can never say or hear it enough.

Had the opportunity to do a little antiquing last and this weekend and found some great little finds.

Found this marvelous Heywood Hardy chromolithograph of a girl and her dog.  Original frame and glass and the colors are brilliant and true.  Nice large piece.

Sir Galahad, one of the popular Romantic prints of its time.  Hand colored and in original frame with glass.  Perfect for Valentines Day.

Crazy about this pretty little cherub shelf.  Heavy plaster and has a great old world look to it.  I like the antique, cupids awake print on it as well.

  

Neat, antique cast iron team of horses from a children's pull toy.  Had this in the store 2 days when an antique toy collector snapped this up and then asked if I had more.  Oh how I wish I did.  Toys are so hard to come by at affordable prices. 

I remember handing out these little heart boxes filled with candies when I was a teenager.  Found three of them in perfect condition and priced them at a price that even cupid would love.  How fun to hide an engagement ring in one. 

I can see Audrey Hepburn wearing this fantastic Mr. John of New York and Paris hat.  Perfect condition and just plain fun to wear. 

My find of the day.  A gorgeous  and large flow blue serving bowl.  Perfect condition. Lovely embossed scroll work on the bowl with gold lustre accents. Just lovely.

A lovely Victorian serving bowl with the famous cabbage roses hand painted on it.  Love the scroll work along the edge.

This pretty little stone shelf reminds me of Vincenza and Florence, Italy.  Wonderful stone sculptures abound and the missing cherub head only makes it feel like Italy.  I may keep this myself as I love the Old Italian look to it.

I adore old quad plate no matter the condition. They have so many uses from serving up your favorite bread sticks to filling with fresh cut or silk flowers.

Don't usually pick items like this up, but they have such a delightful look to them.  Tobin Fraley carousel horses, I have since learned, are highly collectible.

Vintage wedding dress from the 1940s.  Satin is cut on the bias for lovely draping.

Shaker great walking or wool wheel with a Minor's head assembly.  I have spun wool on this for years, but I am downsizing and am only keeping my one, castle wheel that I spin on all of the time.

Brought out pretty vintage carnival glass from the turn of the century.  A love the look of the soft matt carni glass myself. 

I put the green velvet coat on my Edwardian dress form and loved the way it looks. 

With the holidays over, I have emptied both booths of all Christmas/New Year items and am now working towards Valentines Day.  Going to do a major redesign in my main booth over the next few weekends.  Want to give it a more gallery setup like my Victorian booth.  Will post photos as the work progresses.  Of course, after this recent setup, I took the time to walk through Queen of Hearts to see what other dealers were offering.   Lucky me, I walked by Sassytrash's lovely booth and focused like a laser beam on a fantastic, milk paint aqua blue ice cream bucket.  OMG...be still my heart.  I grabbed this so fast and put it in my cart and had a trail of ladies following me and asking if I would sell it to them.  Nope, not a chance.  I have already brought it home and filled it with sea shells.  I am a happy sea witch.

Weekend Treasure Hunt

It was cold, damp and rainy on Saturday...so miserable out that sis decided to stay at home and get over her sinus infection.  We have such a grand time running around that normally I would have hung around the house but I find that when the weather is rainy,that is the best kind of day for finding treasure or at least it is for me.  Perhaps it is the fate of a Sea Witch to thrive in a water soaked day so I was off to a few favorite haunts and they did not disappoint.

Fantastic Warwick china Pitcher and Bowl set. 

Nice late Victorian piece and I adore these  in white.

Lovely sterling mirror and brush set from the 1900s, a lovely gold mirror, brush and comb set from the 1950s, a pretty mirror dresser tray with roses along the edge, a cool, vintage iron from the 1950s, and the loveliest little tea pot from the 30s.  I may keep that myself.

How cool is that huge, calabash pipe and then right next to is is a tiny wooden shoe pipe.  Both vintage and still working.  Pretty little Victorian basket, nice pink darner, a rhinestone pin that spells out Paris, a pair of sterling dinner table bells and a vintage 38 special cap gun.

 Pretty vintage photograph in tin frame, lovely dresser set of a powder box and a pair of scent bottles, two books from the 1800's but the real find is a series of french missals and paper items.  I immediately thought of all of those altered artists who adore working with vintage papers and thought how lovely it would be to have some of these sheets. As I looked at them I felt a "giveaway coming on".  Yea, this would be a neat item to put in a giveaway and my honey always says to spread the wealth so look for tomorrow's post regarding this frenchie giveaway.

After cleaning items up and preparing tags, I hauled my treasure to Queen of Hearts and put most of them in my booth.  A quick rotation of stock to make the booth look fresh and I think we are good to go.  Hope you enjoy the photos.

The Victorian water and pitcher set look lovely with the purple tulips.

Moved the silver into the corner cupboard and displayed the green depression glass and vintage china pieces.

 I think the silver looks great in this vintage corner cupboard.  Nice juxtaposition of elegance and comfortable home.

Pink is such a fun color to decorate with.

...and last but not least, that pretty little teapot.  The more I look at it the more I think I want to keep it.  So that was my weekend, I had a wonderful time hunting down treasure.  I will now work on that French giveaway that I "feel coming on" and will post about it tomorrow.  Have a great Monday.
