Charice Ranks 7th Among the Best Guest Stars of 'Glee'; Fil-Am Darren Criss Tops the List
Popular US celebrity website Entertainment Weekly (EW) ranked Filipina singing sensation Charice as the seventh “Best Guest Star” on the phenomenal Fox TV show “Glee.”
In the “'Glee': Ranking the Best Guest Stars” article, which counts down the top 15 appearances on the show since its first season, Charice ranked higher than some of music’s finest, such as Britney Spears (9th), Josh Groban (11th), Eve (13th) and Olivia Newton-John (15th).
Charice, who is said to appear in 10 episodes, plays Sunshine Corazon, a Filipina exchange student. She first appeared on the show’s second season pilot episode.
EW said the following about the 18-year old David Foster and Oprah prodigy:
“The tiny powerhouse is perhaps the one age-appropriate rival who makes Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) nervous (which is why Dame Berry sent her to a crack house instead of the choir room). As exchange student Sunshine Corazon, she added another ballad to the New Directions repertoire with a powerful version of 'Listen' that was so impressive, it caused Vocal Adrenaline to snatch her up before her first McKinley practice.”
“Glee” is already past eight episodes, but Charice’s much-anticipated next appearance remains a top secret. Even so, speculations spawned that the young diva might belt out the Celine Dion classic “Because You Loved Me” in a forthcoming episode.
Occupying the number one spot on EW’s list is another artist with Filipino blood, the newly signed up “Glee” cast member, Darren Criss.
The half-Filipino, half-Irish “Potter Musical” YouTube wonder was described as “the most anticipated guest star” on the show, playing an openly gay student from Dalton Academy, Blaine.
Although his role is being raved about - “a mentor and possible love interest for Kurt (Chris Colfer)" - EW cited, “his rendition of Katy Perry's ‘Teenage Dream’ - which is currently smashing sales records - would make anyone weak in the knees.”
